Grammarly AI Review — Is It Still Worth Using in 2026?

What is Grammarly?

Grammarly has been quite useful for some time now. Not just for spelling or grammar mistakes though, it has recently (in last 2 years or so) added a lot of AI features that actually helped us become better writers.24. For instance it can rephrase your entire paragraph, change the style of writing or even advise you on how to make your email sound more professional. From a simple checker, it became a complete writing aid.

What does it actually do?

Once you install Grammarly it remains discreet in your browser, Google Doc, MS Word or roughly whichever place you normally type. It print out errors, proposes corrections and more with the recently introduced AI button you can just select a sentence by spotlight and ask it to reword it using a various tone: make it a bit shorter, warmer, serious or more secured.

Is the free version any good?

The free plan does a good job of catching basic grammar issues and misspelled words. Which is still genuinely useful for a lot of people. The paid version, called Grammarly Premium, is where the real AI features come into play.

It costs around $12 per month billed annually.

Which is quickly worth it for anyone that does a lot of writing for work or school.

Who is it best for?

Grammarly is excellent if you’re a student and need to polish up essays before submission. Also fantastic if you happen to do much English second language email writing. Content writers and bloggers often boost their efficiency by use of the program when reviewing smaller editions of a manual per blog for example. That’s also helpful to a professional heavy report writer or frequent customer communicator.

Any downsides?

Grammarly can often recommend edits that make your writing sound a bit bland or awkward. It isn’t always aware of meaning, so can sometimes highlight things that don’t need highlighting. It can also occasionally make a little older computer run a little slower in the background. And the prices can seem steep if you only text once in a while.

Final verdict

Grammarly is actually useful. The free version is probably worth having on your browser even if you plan to never buy it. If you’re a commercial or academic writer then the paid-for version is a good investment. However, all it will do is prevent you making embarrassing errors and make your stuff appear professional.
