Is your data safe with ai tools? what you need to know

This is a question well worth asking seriously. When you type into chatgpt or claude, what’s leaving traces? Here’s a breakdon in simple english.

what data do ai companies collect?

To improve their models, most ai providers use your conversations. The privacy policies of openai, anthropic and google show that this is the case. In summary: you can decide not to give permission in settings.

How can I exclude my data from the training data

Chatgpt has an option to switch off memory and also disables using your chats for training. Found in settings > data controls. Anthropic has an option to switch off using your chats for training in claude in settings.

don’t share sensitive information

This is the rule in the practice. Do not copy and paste your passport, bank details, medical data or secret business records into any public AI tool. Think of it as a chat on a pub, not through the keyhole.

Enterprise and api versions are distinct

Companies that subscribe to the api or enterprise versions of ai tools generally have tighter data sharing agreement – your data is not used for training. If you’re using AI for work, ask if your company subscribes to the consumer version or an enterprise agreement.

local ai models

If keeping data private is above all else, you can locally host ai models on your own computer. Lösungen such as ollama allow you to run open source models that do not transmit information to a central server. It is a bit complex to set up but the most privacy preserving

Ai tools can be handy but they are not 100% confidential. Just use your head: Don’t tell them anything you wouldn’t be comfortable saying in public and check out your privacy options.
